Exhibition
Black Hole is an installation of new sculptures by Raphael Lyon. In it, Lyon explores the cryptic parallels between generative artificial intelligence and the emergence of life from non-life. Using electrodeposition, intense heat, controlled electricity and other scientific methods, he created a site-specific installation of semi-organic compositions, recombinant sculptures and evolving tapestries.
The dark interior of the exhibition, its minimal lighting and labyrinthine qualities allude to Palaeolithic cave art and place art-making on a continuum with geological pressure.
By emphasising forces over intentions and setting the animate against the inanimate, Lyon creates a space in which art and technological progress appear as facets of enduring natural processes: complex, numinous, fantastic and occult.
